Mwansabombwe Theatre Festival on

AFTER successfully hosting the 2014 Mwansabombwe Theatre Festival (MWATFEST), Mwansabombwe Theatre Arts Ensemble, the organiser of the event, has decided to host its second theatre festival this year.
The festival will be held at Marble Shaw Girls Secondary School in Mwansabombwe, Luapula Province, for the second successive time. Participants will be drawn from 10 senior theatre clubs across the country.
Festival director Isaac Kalumba says this year’s festival will have march pasts, workshops, community performances and visits to some important sites in Mwansabombwe and the nearest areas.
“We wish to state that this year’s festival will not be by invitation as it were last year. Interested theatre groups will be asked to submit four hard copies of their scripts, technical raider of their production, cast and crew list, after which a team of experts will pick only 10 groups that will participate in the festival,” he says.
“The festival will not allow plays or productions which will be less than 50 minutes and not more than 60 minutes. We urge all interested theatre groups to adhere to the rules of the festival to avoid being inconvenienced, for disciplinary measures will be instituted by concerned people. For those that participated last year, you may have noticed that there are few changes, this is aimed at improving the festival.
“We will soon be updating you on the modalities for participation, festival dates and many other things as regards to the festival through the media and on our Facebook page.”
Last year, the organisers extended invitations to Bantu Theatre (Lusaka), Matero Theatre (Lusaka), Lusaka Theatre Club, NAPSA Theatre Club (Lusaka), ZANASE Theatre (Lusaka), Chingola Arts Society, Kitwe Little Theatre, Mufulira Little Theatre, Tasiyana Community Arts (Kabwe) and Kasama Arts.
