MADALITSO Muthiya’s ambitions of becoming the first Zambian to win a European Tour sanctioned tournament ended in disappointment yesterday when he finished in joint fourth position with seven other golfers.
Muthiya went into the final round at Randpark Golf Club in Johannesburg with a handsome score of 11 under par 200, three shots behind leader and eventual winner South African Louis Oosthuizen.
However, the Zambian, who has been in a combatant form from the first round, dipped his form on the final day as he carded a disappointing one over par 73 to bring his final total score to nine under par 275.
Muthiya’s impressive run at this year’s South Africa Open was one of his best and the closest he came to winning one of the oldest tournaments in the world. Muthiya earned R350,000.
South African Oosthuizen won the tournament with an astonishing 18 under par 266.
