Musenge loses election petition

THE Constitutional Court has dismissed Mwenya Musenge’s appeal against the election of Mwila Mutale as Chimwemwe Member of Parliament.
Mr Musenge appealed against the Kitwe High Court’s decision to uphold the election of Mr Mutale as Chimwemwe MP in the 2016 general elections.
Mr Mutale stood as an independent candidate in the contested election in which he polled 14,695 votes, while Mr Musenge, who stood on the ruling Patriotic Front ticket, got 9,111 ballots.
Dissatisfied with the election results, Mr Musenge asked the court to declare the election of Mutale null and void.
