Mulenga, Ogar win Chinese Ambassador’s tourney

THIRD seed Chongo Mulenga over the weekend defied odds to win the Chinese Ambassador’s Badminton Championship.
And top seed Ogar Siamupangila continued her dominance in the women category beating younger sister Evelyn 2-0 in the final.
Mulenga beat fifth seed Ngosa Chongo 21-15, 21-12 at National Sports Development Centre in Lusaka.
Mulenga beat top seed Mark Banda in the semi-finals.
Siamupangila won the first set 21-11 before Evelyn sustained an injury in the second set.
In the men’s doubles, Mulenga and Chongo were too good for Topsy Phiri and Donald Mabo winning 2-0 in the final.
The Siamupangila sisters thumped Mary Chilambe and Elizabeth Chipeleme 2-0 in the women’s doubles final.
The mixed doubles category saw Ogar and Banda sink Mulenga and Chilambe 2-0.
Mulenga walked away with K1,800 for winning the men’s singles while Ogar got K1,500, with mixed doubles winners getting K700 each. In the doubles, Mulenga and Chongo got K1, 100 each while the Siamupangila sisters walked away with K700 apiece.
And Badminton Zambia technical chairman Kenny Sivile saluted the players for putting up a splendid performance.
