Mugabe’s son makes Afro Basket squad

ZIMBABWE President Robert Mugabe’s son Robert junior has made the final team that will compete at the 2015 Afro Basket Championships starting next week in Tunisia.
According to a post on the International Basketball Federation website, Robert was part of a 14-man team selected by the country’s senior men’s national coach Ellery Pinkerton that flew out to Hamburg, Germany, for a weeklong camp yesterday.
Last weekend, Zimbabwe beat Zambia two games in a row at the City Sports Hall in Harare as they wound up preparations for the 16 nation tournament which will serve as a qualifier for the 2016 summer Olympics basketball tournament in Rio de Janeiro.
First Lady Grace Mugabe was guest of honour where her son stole the limelight along with Zambia’s Dingaane Hara as the two dazzled the crowd with their accurate shooting.
The 22-year-old earned a place in the team, having also represented the national under-18 side.
The tournament runs from August 19 to 30 with the Zimbabwe men’s basketball side making their first ever appearance at Africa’s biggest basketball showpiece.
Zimbabwe are in Group D alongside Algeria, Cape Verde and Ivory Coast.

Eric Banda, Vitalis Chikoko, Taurai Chitsinde, Tawanda Chitsinde, Neville Chivhangane, Brian Hoke, Tatenda Maturure, Agrippa Masvisvi, Tinotenda Mugabe, Simba Mungombedzi, Moses Muyambo, Nyasha Ngove, Everisto Pasipamire and Duncan Shenje.
