MTN Zambia, Zambeef explore ICT prospects

ESTHER MSETEKA, Lusaka
MTN Zambia and Zambeef Products Plc have signed a partnership to explore new opportunities in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector to create new revenue streams.
MTN Zambia chief executive officer Charles Molapisi said the cooperation will enable the two firms to build a strong focus on delivering customer-made mobile money solutions across the 130 Zambeef outlets.
During the signing ceremony on Wednesday, Mr Molapisi said the initiative will allow the public to benefit from the combined expertise, market access for both companies and provide a solid foundation to compete in an ever evolving business environment.
“As MTN Zambia, we are excited about this relationship as it gives us an opportunity to further expand our service offerings, which include the ever-growing mobile money service across our footprint and my plea to Africa is that we should never ever miss this digital revolution.
“Working with Zambeef and harnessing the rapid growth of mobile use in the country will enable us to leverage our core capabilities, strong brands and scale, to solutions for both Zambeef and our customers,” he said.
And Zambeef executive director Yosuf Koya said MTN Zambia will soon conduct a pilot project in five Zambeef outlets to help the company reduce on cash transactions and using mobile money.
Mr Koya said the initiative is another form of a one-stop shop for enterprise solutions in Zambia and will help to create new revenue streams for both companies.
“We have about 130 outlets across the country and about 95 percent of cash transactions being conducted in these outlets. But through this partnership, we will have enhanced security and reduced risks of cash losses.
“So, Zambeef is actually trying to go electronic and that is what  Government is trying to do – which is taking cash out of the system and encouraging the use of mobile money to pay for goods and services, which is for the benefit of  everyone,” he said.
