Mpika hospital construction completed

THE construction of a district hospital in Mpika at a cost of K10.1 million has been completed and the contractor will soon hand-over the building to Government.
The first level modern Mpika District Hospital constructed by Walltech Enterprises, is situated at Malambwa area on Kasama road about six kilometres from Mpika town.
Walltech Enterprise site engineer Wu Chunhua and Mpika district council secretary Kabombo Mutakela confirmed this in separate interviews here on Monday.
“The first-phase of this modern facility has been completed and we are now ready to hand it over to Government. We are just remaining with small matters like putting a poster indicating Mpika District Hospital,” Mr Wu said.
He said the second phase, which is scheduled to start soon, will involve the construction of a mortuary and houses for members of staff.
And Mr Mutakela said the construction of Mpika District Hospital has been completed and Government is in the process of commencing the construction of the second phase of the project.
He said Mpika District Hospital will provide better and quality health services to Mpika residents.
Mr Mutakela also said zone centres like Nabwalya and Chalabesa have been given vehicles meant to ease transportation of patients to Mpika District Hospital for specialised treatment.
“The vehicles will ease the suffering of our people in those areas because previously vehicles from Mpika would go to Nabwalya or Chalabesa to pick patients in case of an emergency,” Mr Mutakela said.
He also said Government has allocated 10 health centres from the over 600 health posts to be built across the country.
Mr Mutakela said health posts have been shared among three constituencies namely Mpika Central (three), Mfuwe (three) and Kanchibiya (four).
He also said Government has built a number of health centres under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) in Mpika.
