THE National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ) has described the reconciliation between Zambia Amateur Athletics Association (ZAAA) president Elias Mpondela and former 400m hurdles world champion Samuel Matete as progressive.NSCZ acting general secretary Raphael Mulenga said the reconciliation between Mpondela and Matete is long overdue and will trigger massive improvement in athletics.
Mulenga said Matete is the only Zambian to have won a medal at the highest level and he possesses rich technical knowledge which will benefit athletics in the country.
Matete, whose alma mater is the Copperbelt, competed mainly in the 400 metres hurdles and was one of the world’s leading hurdlers in the early 1990s. In 1991, he became the first track and field athlete to be world champion.
