More than enough food on Zambia’s table – Katambo

ZAMBIA has 3,239,000 metric tonnes of maize of which 200,000 metric tonnes are for export, Minister of Agriculture Michael Katambo has said.
Giving a preliminary update on the country’s food balance sheet during a media briefing yesterday, Mr Katambo said 2,047,850 metric tonnes are for food and food processing.
Mr Katambo said 500,000 metric tonnes are expected to be held by the Food Reserve Agency as national strategic food reserves.
“Certified seed is estimated to be at 45,000 metric tonnes while 284,000 metric tonnes is expected to be used for livestock feed,” he said.
