Mfuwe airport upgrade to cost $120m

ZAMBIA Airports Corporation Limited (ZACL) director Agness Chaila says the project to upgrade Mfuwe International Airport will cost US$ 120 million.
Ms Chaila said the project, which involves construction of a 600 capacity passenger terminal building, new air traffic control tower and new rescue fire station, will start as soon as the developer is unveiled and consultations are concluded.
She said this during her presentation to the two-day Eastern Province first symposium on development.
The symposium was opened by Eastern Province minister Makebi Zulu.
Others in attendance were Minister of Agriculture Dora Siliya, Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Margaret Mwanakatwe, Minister of Gender Victoria Kalima and her Tourism and Arts counterpart Charles Banda.
The rest are Luapula Province Minister Nixon Chilangwa, Paramount Chief Mpezeni, Senior Chief Madzimawe and Chief Chanje who represented Paramount Chief Kalonga Gawa Undi and the private sector.
Ms Chaila said the upgrade of the Mfuwe International Airport will boost the influx of tourists.
“Developing Mfuwe International Airport would boost tourism business and market most agricultural products grown in the area,” she said.
