ACTING President Inonge Wina says Government will soon start a programme of empowering marketeers irrespective of their political affiliation.
Mrs Wina said the programme, which will be unveiled as soon as consultations are done, will target women in markets and those who sell by the roadsides, especially on highways.
According to a statement issued in Lusaka yesterday by senior private secretary Sheila Siwela, Mrs Wina will liaise with the Ministry of Local Government and Housing to find ways of addressing challenges affecting marketeers.
She was speaking when she met the National Traders and MarketeErs Association of Zambia (NATMAZ) Kitwe branch officials at her office yesterday.
Mrs Wina commended NATMAZ for the work it is doing in addressing issues affecting markets and marketeers.
She said Government is aware that marketeers, especially women, play a major role in the socio-economic structure of the country, hence the need to support and recognise them.
