Madzimawe lures cotton investors

KELVIN MBEWE, Lusaka
SENIOR Chief Madzimawe of the Ngoni people has appealed to investors to take advantage of the abundant cotton resources in Eastern Province and set up ginning companies.
Chief Madzimawe said the export of raw cotton costs Zambia a lot of money.
He said this in an interview yesterday.
“Government has already put up a good working environment for investors. We need more equipment that will add value to cotton. We want cotton to be ginned right here in Eastern Province,” he said.
Senior Chief Madzimawe said cotton passes through a lot of stages before it becomes clothing.
“For you to wear a T-shirt, it passes through ginning, weaving, and other processes.  These are jobs for Zambians that are exported. If these are done in Zambia, the revenue can increase,” he said.
