FERROVIARIO de Maputo Zambia striker Lewis Macha is targeting winning the 2016 Mozambique Premier League golden boot.
And Ferroviario de Beira coach Wedson Nyirenda has urged national team coach George Lwandamina to consider Macha for the 2017 Gabon Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Congo Brazzaville.
Macha finished as top scorer for his club with 10 goals and has so far netted four times in the Mozambique pre-season TaÅŸa Tournament.
He said in an interview from Mozambique yesterday that he is looking to end his stay at Ferroviario on a high note.
“I am targeting the golden boot this year again, last year, I had a knee problem and played less games but I man¬aged to score 10 goals in the league. I thank God I have fully recovered…looking forward to a successful season which starts next week.
“Playing for the national team is every player’s dream. I just hope I keep on improving and perform well enough to attract the coaches’ attention at national team. I want to represent my country and that is my motivation,” Macha said.
Meanwhile, Nyirenda said on his official Facebook page that Macha deserves a call-up to the national team.
“The boy [Macha] last year was top scorer for his club [Ferroviario], this season he seems to have improved further. He is scoring in each game that he plays. And his style of play is just a marvel to watch. I believe he can add so much value to our national team,” Nyirenda said.
Macha joined Ferroviario from Zanaco in 2013.
