HIP HOP artiste Mikrophone7 or simply M7 as some call him will next launch his album “Current Situation” at Mulungushi International Conference Centre (MICC) in Lusaka. The 24-year-old, whose real name is Kaluba Bwalya, says he has since lined-up some other gospel ministers to be part of the launch. These include Abel Chungu, Mag44, Esther Chungu, The Church, Kingsmen Band and Solomon Pilate.
Some of the people lined-up feature on M7’S album.
M7, a member of the Mt Zion Church, named some of the songs on the album as Blesser, which was produced by Mag44 and Mulomo which features Tha Proof and The Church.
He says much of the material on the project was inspired by Psalms 11:17 which reads: “He who earnestly seeks good finds favour but trouble will come to him who seeks evil”.
However, M7, who attended Damishael Christian Academy of the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) church, Kamwala Secondary School and is currently studying public relations at Zambia Institute of Mass Communication (ZAMCOM), has also been inspired by the works of Eminem, Snoop Dog Doggy and Michael Jackson.
While at Kamwala Secondary School, where he completed secondary school in 2011, he was actively involved in music and basketball.
M7 now considers himself as one of the fast-rising hip hop stars following in the footsteps of the likes of Mag44 and Tio.
“I’ve also looked up to Da Truth and Abel Chungu as some of the artistes who have inspired me in my musical journey,” he says.
Of his album, he says: “[It] is simply an album which brings real situations of the happening in today’s world, particularly among us the youths”.
And as rapper and singer, M7 embraces the diversity of rap and hip/hop to draw his flock to mainstream and youthful gospel rhymes and tunes.
“Today, several of our youths have embraced hip/hop-rap gospel as a tool which they use to spread the gospel. And in each and every case, it is how you present the message and not necessarily the music style that you get across,” he says.
One of M7s fans wrote on his Facebook page that: “I have known Kaluba for many years now. He is the young brother I never had. He inspires me to work had and believe in my dreams as well. Kaluba is the definition of a man with a vision.
“His music speaks both to the young and old. I know some many young people who have confined themselves to sing in a choir and are afraid of unleashing that unique voice.”
