“SCARED to the memory of John Alexander Maybin – Governor of Northern Rhodesia. 1938-1941. Born at Ayr, Scotland on 5 August 1839. Died at Lusaka on April 9, 1941,” reads a tombstone at the Aylmer May Cemetery in Rhodes Park, Lusaka; Zambia.
The former Governor’s grave is among 1,000 identifiable graves in this well maintained cemetery situated on Lagos Road.
There are graves in memory of members of the Farmers Co-op Society of Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia). I spent two hours touring this historic site which holds many graves of refugees from Poland.
Among the notable graves is that of Alexander Scott, father of former Vice-President Dr Guy Scott under the administration of late President Michael Chilufya Sata of the Patriotic Front (PF).
Alexander Scott died on June 29, 1960.http://epaper.daily-mail.co.zm/
