PRESIDENT Lungu has lauded Chipolopolo teenage striker Conlyde Luchanga for his resilience during the 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN) last round first leg against Mozambique.
Luchanga scored Chipolopolo’s second goal on his debut in the 3-0 thumping of the Mambas at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola yesterday.
“The number seven [Luchanga] was very impressive. We need game-changers,” he said.
Lungu encouraged the players to believe in themselves and stay focused.
The President said the victory against Mozambique was good and that Government would organise some fans to go and cheer the team in Maputo this Saturday.
He has urged the Chipolopolo to finish off the Mambas when they travel to Maputo for the return leg.
The Head of State has, however, cautioned the Chipolopolo against complacency when they face Mozambique in the return leg set for October 24 in Maputo.
Lungu, who was clad in an orange Chipolopolo jersey and a cowboy hat, said if he had a way, he would crown Luchanga as the man-of-the-match.
He urged the players to be ambitious if they are to attain legend Kalusha Bwalya’s feat.
And Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Kalusha Bwalya lauded the head of State for the moral support rendered to the team.
Kalusha also paid tribute to the players and technical bench for believing in themselves.
“That was one of the best second-halves I have watched in a long time. You know the way the goals came and just the build-up, credit goes to the boys,” he said.
Kalusha said the 3-0 victory was a fantastic result, especially that Mozambique gave Zambia a tough time in the first-half.
He applauded Luchanga for finding the back of the net on his debut.
The 1988 African-footballer-of-the-year is happy that the Chipolopolo have found form at the right time, especially that there are important matches to be played at the end of the year.
