MODEL Liyah Phiri, 26, has been selected to represent Zambia at the 2018 World Miss Tourism Ambassador pageant taking place in both Vietnam and Thailand.According to the invitation letter from the World Miss Tourism Ambassador 2018, Liyah will be in Vietnam from July 25-30, and from July 30 to August 8, 2018, she will be in Thailand.
“Your presence is cordially invited as an official contestant of Zambia for the World Miss Tourism Ambassador 2018 Pageant which will be held in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, and Patthalung, Thailand,” said ERM Vietnam Entertainment Media president Nguyen Thi Thanh in his letter to Liyah.
Liyah, who is currently pursuing a degree in public administration at a local university, won the first-ever Miss Peace Zambia 2015 which earned her a slot to represent Zambia at the Miss Tourism Universe in Lebanon that year where she emerged among the top 10.
The Ministry of Tourism and Arts has been supportive of Liyah in promoting the country’s tourism to the outside world and her nomination for Vietnam- Thailand comes out of sheer hard work and determination.
“We are very much positive that Miss Liyah Phiri will advertise and promote the tourism sector to the rest of the world as a tourism destination of choice,” a Ministry of Tourism and Arts official said.
World Miss Tourism Ambassador Pageant has been conceptualised as a prestigious international event, bringing together representatives from seven different continents to identify and showcase the world’s best tourism cultures, goodwill, protection programmes and destination promotions.
Liyah feels the 2018 World Miss Tourism Ambassador pageant is a wonderful platform to exhibit Zambia’s tourism and its potential that could attract people from across the world to come and visit.
“I am one person who is self-motivated and very creative. I am bold, confident, I have a positive mind and am one person who is eager to learn. This pageant is a great opportunity to show the world what Zambia has in terms of tourism,” she said in an inter¬view before departure.
Liyah has in the past participated in model events such as Miss Peace Zambia 2015, Miss Heritage Zambia 1st Runner-up 2015, Miss Unity Zambia 1st Runne-up 2015, World BiKini Model Zambia 2016 and Top Runway Model during Top Model Africa in Zimbabwe in 2016.
She has also worked as a brand model for Zambian Breweries, Standard Chartered Bank, Stanbic Bank, Airtel, Zamtel and MTN, among other corporate organisations, and she has worked with both local and international outfit designers.
