Letter to the Editor

Kudos to University of Lusaka on dress code stance

Dear editor
I WOULD like to commend the University of Lusaka (UNILUS) on its bold and necessary decision to prescribe decent dressing for students.
Universities are now competing with night clubs in terms of indecent dressing. Students, especially females, go to lecture theatres like they are going to a night club with an agenda to hook a client.
Universities are for intellectuals, not sex workers. Even those who are in that business should draw a line when they are in school. They should restrict that kind of behaviour to bars and night clubs.
Actually, lecturers should chase students who go to class half-naked because they do not only harass their fellow pupils but the lecturers, too, some of whom are old enough to be their fathers.
I urge University of Zambia, Copperbelt University and others to emulate UNILUS. Let’s bring sanity to our universities.
