King back on throne

Soccer Review with STEPHEN PHIRI
THE lifting of Kalusha Bwalya’s two-year ban by FIFA has come at a time when his services in helping develop the local game are needed most.
Our football has been reeling as the national team has failed to qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations on two consecutive occasions, which is not good for Zambia’s pedigree.
The FIFA appeals committee, at its sitting to look at Kalusha’s appeal against his ban, lifted the ban. I know that there are semantics on whether the ban was lifted.
Such kind of thinking is baseless because the fact is that the suspension was lifted as of January 28, 2019.
We cannot go into cheap politicking of whether he is a convict unless we have not welcomed the lifting or reduction of his suspension.
Of course, he has already served some months, which will not be reversed, and he was sanctioned with about K120,000.
What should concern us is that he is now free to participate in football matters, especially for his country, which needs help having struggled of late.
I do not want to go into details of these failures lest I provoke your emotions, but it is clear that Zambian football stakeholders need to work as one if success is to be achieved.
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) executive committee, which has been given the mandate to run the affairs of football, should galvanise all stakeholders – referees, coaches, players, administrators, sponsors, media and others – to ensure success.
And Kalusha, having been a player, coach and administrator at the highest level, should play an important role so that the glory days are back.
Not that he single-handedly has the magic wand but his contribution may be needed as FAZ tries to address the failures that have beset our team.
On his part, Kalusha should now be wiser than before after going through this trying moment.
He knows how to handle issues differently from before so that he does not fall in the same trap.
Fellow Zambians, stand with me as we, together, celebrate the lifting of the
suspension of the legendary son of Zambia – Kalusha.
