FOOTBALL is the country’s number one sport, hence some corporates are involved in sponsoring clubs.Little wonder Mopani Copper Mines and Copperbelt Energy Corporation have continued sponsoring Nkana and Power Dynamos respectively, just like Zambia Railways Limited has kept faith in ‘Magnificent’ Kabwe Warriors, Zambia Sugar Plc has sustained Nakambala Leopards while Zanaco Bank has continued providing grants to ‘Sensational’ Zanaco Football Club.
In the same vein, Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) Plc has done well to continue helping Nchanga Rangers and Konkola Blades.
However, KCM has seemingly neglected Blades and Rangers to the extent of almost ‘orphaning’ them.
Due to negligence, Blades were relegated from top flight soccer last season and Rangers seem to be following suit this season.
This does not augur well with the corporate image of KCM, currently being viewed as stingy by Rangers supporters.
KCM should mind its corporate image, especially in view of the bad publicity being generated by the plight of Rangers players, who are either going months without being paid or are being evicted by landlords for non-payment of rentals.
I hope KCM can take note of this and increase the grant to Rangers as well as open up the executive for other members of the community.
