Kawambwa set for 9,700tn sugar

KAWAMBWA Sugar Limited says it will produce over 9,700 tonnes of sugar annually when it starts production in 2021.
The US$300 million project owned by Nava Bharat situated in the Luena farm block in Kawambwa is expected to change the economic status of the district, which is mainly characterised by small-scale farming and fishing.
Kawambwa Sugar Limited senior manager in charge of administration Annie Chimota said the company, which has so far planted cane seedlings, will start producing sugar in 2021.
Ms Chimota said at the Zambia Sugar Plc and British Chamber of Commerce breakfast meeting last Thursday that over 3,700 out-growers will be engaged while 500 direct jobs and 15,000 indirect ones will be created.
