Kasonde directs permanent secretary to release funds

KASONDE

NANCY SIAME, Lusaka
MINISTER of Health Joseph Kasonde has directed his permanent secretary Davy Chikamata to engage in negotiations with his Finance counterpart to facilitate the release of additional funds for outstanding personal emoluments for health workers.
Dr Kasonde said he is confident that with support from the Ministry of Finance, the funds will be available.
This is contained in a statement issued by Ministry of Health spokesperson Kamoto Mbewe.
“The Ministry of Health wishes to take this opportunity to assure workers that it is ready to dialogue on issues that affect them,” Dr Kasonde said.
He also directed Dr Chikamata to engage the Resident Doctors Association of Zambia (RDAZ) to explain that the delay in the payment of allowances was due to a limited resource envelope.
He also said the doctors are to be updated on what the Ministry of Health is doing, in order to facilitate the release of additional funds to address issues of outstanding personal emoluments for health workers.
“The minister was briefed by Dr Chikamata on the content of the correspondence from the RDAZ dated August 31, 2015 over the delayed payment of allowances and hence, this directive,” Dr Mbewe said.
