Kalu’s football activities ban sad, but…

Dear editor,
THE banning of Zambia’s soccer icon Kalusha Bwalya by FIFA from all football-related activities both at national and international level for receiving gifts from Mohamed Bin Hammam is a very sad development.Bin Hammam, who was a football administrator and president of the Asian Football Confederation, was banned for life after being found guilty of ‘repeated violations’ of the ethics code on conflicts of interest, while AFC president and while on the FIFA executive committee between 2008 and 2011.
Kalusha, the 1988 African-footballer-of-the-year, has been found guilty of receiving benefits and gifts contrary to FIFA rules.
Kalusha lives soccer because his life is almost dependent on the beautiful game.
It is a lesson to other club administrators not to abuse their office of authority.
