Kalulushi to have first shopping mall

KALULUSHI town clerk Josephine Simwinga says the Local Authorities Superannuation Fund (LASF) will soon start constructing a shopping mall at St Marcellin in the district.
Ms Simwinga said this after a full council meeting on Wednesday, adding that LASF is in a hurry to construct the shopping mall.
“We owe them a lot of money in terms of employee contributions, so we are doing a debt swap with LASF, that will be a way of offsetting what we owe them. And we have agreed with them that they should develop a shopping mall in St Marcellin,” Ms Simwinga said.
She said the municipality owes LASF about K2 million.
“We have given them five hectares of land. Our colleagues are in a hurry to develop a shopping mall, what has been delaying is the numbering of plots which has since been done,” Ms Simwinga said.
She said the construction of a shopping mall in the town will create jobs for local people.
Ms Simwinga said Kalulushi currently does not have a shopping mall and residents are forced to travel to Kitwe to do their shopping.
“The construction of a shopping mall will add value and beauty to Kalulushi,” Ms Simwinga said.
