K1.3 million spent on schools upgrade

NKOMBO KACHEMBA, Kitwe
GOVERNMENT has spent over K1.3 million to upgrade three primary schools in Kitwe into secondary schools.
The schools that have been upgraded are Kamatipa, Lima and Parklands primary schools which are now offering higher education services.
Speaking in an interview yesterday Kitwe district education board secretary Kezela Mwale said Government has built additional classroom blocks and staff houses in the three schools for them to reach the standards of secondary schools.
“We shall continue to build more schools in the district and expand the existing infrastructure in the education sector to improve on the delivery of education services in our district,” Mr Mwale said.
He said Kitwe has 147,269 registered learners and the number keeps increasing, hence the need to ensure that infrastructure is expanded in the existing schools.
Mr Mwale said currently, Kitwe has 1,063 permanent classrooms which are not enough to accommodate more children who need education.
He said the district has received all the text books and teachers’ guide for the revised curriculum for grades one to 10, which have been distributed to all the schools in the district.
