Investors urged to establish manufacturing plants

CHILILABOMBWE district commissioner Stuart Chitumbo has appealed to investors to consider establishing manufacturing plants in the district for local and export markets.
Mr Chitumbo said Chililabombwe’s economy, which is dependent on the mining industry, can also be a readily available market for the would-be manufacturers.
“We are appearing to investors to consider setting up manufacturing plants in the district to improve on the economy which will result in creation of jobs,” he said in a telephone interview.
Mr Chitumbo said the mining town can be a hub for agricultural export processed foods locally and into the  Democratic Republic of Congo market.
He said the local authority is in a hurry to develop the district, hence has reserved land for development, as well as commercial plots which are available for would-be manufacturers.
Meanwhile, Mr Chitumbo has appealed to farmers, to produce enough foods for consumption and consider exporting the surplus.
He commended farmers for diversifying into other crops as a way to generate increased revenue and for the initiative taken to expand on their farming activities.
