Investment pledges increase

ZAMBIA Development Agency (ZDA) has recorded a 200 percent increase in investment pledges valued at US$2.7 billion with over 15,000 projected jobs from January to September this year.
Last year, during the same period, ZDA recorded US$765 million pledged investments with over 4,000 jobs.
The recorded investment pledges are in the energy sector which attracted the highest projected investments totalling US$1.1 billion, manufacturing at US$ 647 million, tourism sector registered US$190 million and agriculture recorded US$106 million.
In response to a query, ZDA director general Perry Mapani said the agency is currently preparing for the first China international import expo where Zambian companies will participate and benefit from the opening up of the Chinese market to imports from the international market.
