IMF bail-out vital

TRYNESS TEMBO, Lusaka
THERE is need for Government to continue pushing for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout deal this year as it is the most affordable source of finance for the country, Policy Monitoring and Research Centre (PMRC) says.
Last year, a team from IMF was in the country to assess Zambia’s economic situation and to exchange information on economic data that will facilitate the development of a macroeconomic framework for use during the Article IV Consultations, in the first quarter of 2019.
PMRC executive director Bernadette Deka-Zulu said the IMF presents affordable finance and is significantly cheaper than commercial borrowing from domestic and international markets.
“We have been submitting to Government to pursue the IMF bailout programme for balance of payment support for as long as the bailout terms and conditions are favourable to all Zambians by consolidating growth http://epaper.daily-mail.co.zm/
