Illegal mining irks mines minister

MINISTER of Mines and Minerals Development Richard Musukwa is concerned at the rampant increase of illegal mining activities by artisanal, small-scale and medium scale mining firms across the country.
Mr Musukwa has urged the Ministry of Mines, the Chamber of Mines and all other key stakeholders to quickly map out a more coordinated way of carrying out small-scale, medium scale and artisanal mining activities.
“I wish to express Government’s determination for a structured and coordinated approach to medium, artisanal and small-scale mining.
“As things stand, activities are disorganised and in addition operating procedures are completely outside the prescribed law,” he said this at the fourth mining gala night in Ndola
