‘Help farmers access markets’

CONSUMER Unity and Trust Society (CUTS) has urged Government to redouble its efforts in helping farmers access the open market to enable them sell their maize at a profitable price.
Last week, the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) announced that it will be buying maize at K65 for a 50 kilogramme (kg) bag for the 2018 crop marketing season.
CUTS centre co-ordinator Chenai Mukumba said there is need for Government to facilitate farmer access to markets as in some areas; farmers are able to sell their maize at over K80 per 50 kg bag
