PRESIDENT Lungu and the Patriotic Front (PF) government deserve commendation for the strides Zambia has made to have a constitution that entrenches democracy, Central Province Minister Davies Chisopa has said.
Mr Chisopa said the fact that President Lungu is expected to assent to Constitution of Zambia Amendment Bill, which has progressive clauses such as the 50 plus-one-percent, presidential running mate, dual citizenship and the date of general elections, demonstrates good leadership.
“We hope that the people are appreciating this commitment that we have shown as PF. Opposition political parties need to congratulate President Lungu on delivering the constitution,” he said.
Mr Chisopa said yesterday that the head of State has shown that he has the interest of the country at heart by assuring the people that he would soon assent to the Constitution of Zambia Amendment Bill and Constitution of Zambia Bill during the first week of January.
Mr Chisopa said Mr Lungu is committed to fulfilling the promises the PF made to Zambians for a new Constitution.
He also urged people to study the contents of the Bill of Rights in the constitution so that when the country holds the referendum, they will be well-informed.
He said much as Zambia needs an all-inclusive constitution, citizens must realise that the country is a Christian nation which recognises the supremacy of God.
Meanwhile, Mr Chisopa says the Government is aware of the challenges that load shedding has had on the country.
“Load shedding has been a challenge but we have managed to pull through,” Mr Chisopa said.
“President Lungu is committed to ensuring that load shedding is reduced to minimal levels.”
He also urged people in Central Province to remain peaceful as the New Year approaches.
