DROVES of fans who turned up to cheer Green Eagles for their Champions League first round, first leg match against Primeiro Agosto of Angola left National Heroes Stadium disappointed following the home team’s 1-2 loss.
It is obvious, if natural for soccer fans to be disappointed when their preferred side does not rise to the occasion. Every fan, including those who were following proceedings on radio and social media wanted to smile at the end of the 90 minutes.
But it was not to be as Eagles faltered to the Angolan club. Experience was the difference on Saturday.
While Eagles are playing in the Champions League for the first time, Agosto, last year’s semi-finalists, have been around in continental football for a while.
This, however, does not take away Eagles’ prospects of qualifying for the group stage if only the coaching bench can make amends for the return leg.
So, Eagles may have lost the first leg but they are certainly not yet out. There is another 90 minutes to be contested in Luanda.
Good luck Eagles.
