Govt ‘boosts’ Chipungu’s image

STEVEN MVULA, Parliament
RUFUNSA member of Parliament Kenneth Chipungu (MMD) has praised Government and Neria Investments for the timely delivery of farm inputs to his constituency.
“The Daily Mail carried a very interesting story the other day on my constituency concerning fertiliser being distributed by Neria [Investments]. Our farmers are so happy that for the first time in a long time, they have fertiliser at their fields and not in some sheds at the boma,” Mr Chipungu said in Lusaka yesterday.
He said the timely distribution has made Government popular in Rufunsa because in the past, inputs were delivered late.
“As area MP, I am so happy that farming inputs are actually with farmers. This has boosted my image,” he said.
On Monday, Neria Investments representative Martin Chaikatisha carried out a spot-check in Rufunsa aimed at ensuring that the farming inputs had been delivered to farmers.
And Mr Chipungu said his constituency has received earth moving equipment from the Zambia National Service (ZNS).
“We are the first district to receive earth moving equipment from ZNS. We have identified specific roads which we want them to work on as a priority,” Mr Chipungu said.
Meanwhile, Parliament heard on Wednesday that warehouse managers stole K1.7 million worth of fertiliser in 13 districts.
Minister of Agriculture Given Lubinda told Parliament that there were 13 cases of thefts of fertiliser reported during the 2014/2015 planting season under the Farmer Input Support Programme.
He was responding to a question by Chadiza MP Allan Mbewe (MMD).
Mr Lubinda named the affected districts as Kabwe, Ngabwe, Lufwanyama, Kawambwa, Mansa and Rufunsa.
Others are Mpika, Nakonde, Livingstone, Kaoma, Luampa, Mwandi and Nkeyema.
