Government warns mines over downsizing

STEPHEN Kampyongo - Minister of Home Affairs.

MINING companies threatening to downsize their workforce because of the proposed new tax regime risk having their work permits revoked, Minister of Home Affairs Stephen Kampyongo has warned.
And Government will soon summon Lubambe Copper Mine Limited chief executive officer Nick Bowen over allegations of disrespecting Zambians.
Mr Kampyongo said Government will not condone mining investors who want to arm-twist Government using the recently introduced sales tax.
He said yesterday during a Patriotic Front (PF) interactive forum that foreign investors threatening to downsize the Zambian labour force should also be ready to cut down the number of their expatriate employees.
