Government to upgrade 3 abattoirs

GOVERNMENT has identified three abattoirs to be upgraded to meet the export standards of goat and sheep to Saudi Arabia.
The three abattoirs are Kachema in Makeni, Ecobeef in Mazabuka and Zambeef Products Plc in Chisamba.
In 2016, Saudi Arabia requested Zambia to start supplying one million goats per year to the Middle East.
Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock director of veterinary services Yona Sinkala said in an interview on Monday that Government and the Saudi Arabia are making progress in the realisation of the goat and sheep deal.
Zambia has formed a taskforce comprising ministries of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Livestock and Fisheries, Agriculture and the representatives from the private sector
