Government flags off water channels construction

Jobbicks Kalumba

HENRY SINYANGWE, Kasama
GOVERNMENT has flagged off the construction of water channels using a modern water master in Chilubi district in

Northern Province.
During his recent visit to the district, Northern Province permanent secretary Jobbicks Kalumba, who flagged off the exercise, said this follows President Lungu’s directive to operationalise the dredger which had stayed for many months without being used after it was handed over to the province.
Dr Kalumba said this is meant to ease movement of the islanders to other districts in the region.
He said the move will also enable Government enhance monitoring of various projects being undertaken in the district.
Dr Kalumba said the machine operators have since assured Government of completing the eight kilometres project within two months.
And Chilubi district council chairperson Daniel Mwila thanked Government for the gesture.
He said residents are facing difficulties in using big boats, especially during the dry season when water levels go down.
He further thanked Government for its efforts aimed at lifting people’s welfare in rural areas like Chilubi.
Last year, President Lungu handed over a dredger to Chilubi district in Northern Province for construction and periodic maintenance of water channels.
