ALVIN CHIINGA, Lusaka
A SHORTAGE of fuel has hit some parts of Lusaka resulting in panic buying at filling stations that have supplies.
An on the spot check by the Zambia Daily Mail in some parts of Lusaka revealed that many service stations had run out of both diesel and petrol.
“We have run out of fuel and I am unable to know exactly the cause of this shortage because stocks are not coming since last Sunday,” Patrick Banda of Engen Filling Station in Longacres said.
At Total Filling Station on Church Road, diesel and petrol had run out by 10:00 hours.
At Puma Longacres Filling Station, petrol was available and a long queue had formed around midday.
Ministry of Energy and Water Development permanent secretary Brigadier General Emelda Chola said Government would soon issue a comprehensive statement on the supply of fuel.
“We are working on a statement for everyone.  We will be able to give you the statement once it’s ready,” she said in an interview.
Minister of Energy and Water Development Dora Siliya could not be reached for comment.
