FORLI Zambia Limited, a real estate firm, has set aside US$8 million for the construction of a shopping mall next to Woodlands Stadium to contribute to infrastructure development in the area.
The company has since entered into a lease agreement with the City of Lusaka Football Club to contract the shopping mall and the project is anticipated to create over 150 direct jobs.
It is envisaged that the project will also offer a comprehensive, safe and convenient commercial facility in a single location targeted at meeting the local and regional demands.
According to an environmental impact assessment (EIA) report submitted to Zambia Environmental Management Agency and obtained by the Daily Mail recently, the project is anticipated to start in the fourth quarter as soon as it is approved.
The report says the project also aims to add beauty and vibrancy to the area especially that it is along the main entry road to Chalala, an upcoming residential area.
“Forli Limited intends to develop a shopping mall at the intersection of Mosi-oa-Tunya and Buluwe roads in Woodlands, through the lease arrangement using the design, build, operate and sell model.
“The proposed project location is within an already developed or built up environment with residence and recreational stadium in the vicinity, devoid of any natural flora or fauna. The site is under leasehold tenure and is privately-owned,” the report reads.
Upon completion, the major products of the project will be an integrated commercial mall comprising of banks, retail outlets, restaurants and many other facilities.
