UNDER-20 national team players are targeting winning the Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations after progressing to the semi-finals.
By qualifying to the last four of the competition, Zambia also booked a ticket to the FIFA South Korea World Cup.
Forward Fashion Sakala said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that winning the tournament is every player’s dream.
Fashion, who was voted man-of-the-match in the match against Mali on Wednesday, said results from the two matches have shown that players are hungry for success.
Zambia edged Guinea 1-0 in the opening match on Sunday.
Fashion and Edward Chilufya accounted for a brace, while Emmanuel Banda and Enock Mwepu contributed a goal apiece in the 6-1 bashing of Mali on Wednesday night.
Striker Patson Daka said the team is on course towards winning a maiden Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations title following a bright start.
“The game against Mali is in the past, we are now looking to the future. We are happy to have qualified to the World Cup but now our focus is on the tournament. We want to go very far. Each game we play is very important in the tournament,” Daka said.
Skipper Solomon Sakala said players are working hard to win the continental title.
Sakala said the players have embraced teamwork and discipline.
Zambia lead Group A with six points, four better than second-placed Egypt while Guinea and Mali have a point apiece but the former have a better goal aggregate.
Zambia tackle Egypt in Lusaka tomorrow while Guinea face Mali in Ndola.
