Embrace love, condemn hate – Chama

PATRIOTIC Front (PF) Secretary General Davies Chama has called on Zambians to embrace love, peace and unity in 2016.
And Mr Chama says every Zambian should condemn hate speech that seems to have taken root in the political circles.
In an interview in Lusaka yesterday, Mr Chama said it is important for Zambians to remain united and desist from peddling lies.
He said the PF will continue to stand on its principles of transformational leadership and accelerated development.
“Without peace, we cannot achieve and attain the Zambia we want and dream of. But with unity and love, we can go far,” he said.
Mr Chama said peace will only be achieved through individual and collective efforts and that in the New Year, Zambians must embrace the ideals of peace.
“Shun practices that will lead to the disintegration of the family unit, which is the foundation of any country. Family unity is critical because without it, the Church and the country cannot function well,” he said.
“It is a shame that in a country like ours that is endowed with natural resources, our people are still wallowing in poverty. We believe that if we can work together and desist from regionalism and tribal politics this year, we can find possible alternatives on how to improve the lives of our people,” he said.
Mr Chama has advised Zambians not to be misled by selfish politicians with intentions to enrich themselves.
“If our leaders who worked tirelessly to liberate our country against colonialism were preaching politics of hate and tribe, we wouldn’t have attained this freedom we are enjoying. Let’s not put the peace of our country at risk because our children need to grow,” he said.
Mr Chama said hate speech is dangerous because words have power and can influence others to act without making an informed decision. Hate speech promotes division and intolerance; it harms and marginalises the vulnerable groups, who are usually the victims.
“We are in an election year and as Zambians, we should ensure that what we do or say promotes love and unity and should be opposed to violence,” Mr Chama said.
