ECZ, police must tame UPND, says Mwila

Electoral Commission of Zambia and law enforcement agencies should tame the continued violence allegedly by United Party for National Development (UPND).

Patriotic Front (PF) secretary general Davies Mwila claims UPND is wilfully abrogating the peace accord recently signed with PF to create anarchy ahead of next month’s elections. Last week, suspected UPND cadres attacked PF members and a journalist, of which 33 people were arrested in Ikeleng’i, Mumbwa and Chisamba.

Mr Mwila said this yesterday when he launched the party’s three-day door-to-door campaign meetings targeting the seven constituencies of Lusaka. “I am challenging those NGOs [non-governmental organisations], the observers, especially the Commonwealth, who have been siding with the UPND, what are you going to do about this violence?” Mr Mwila wondered.
