Eastern water company gets K2.5m for pipe re-routing

HOPE NYOKA, Chipata
SOUTH AFRICA-based Portuguese Group Mota-Engil has given K2.5 million to Eastern Water and Sewerage Company (EWSC) to re-route a water supply pipe under a footpath on Umodzi highway in Chipata.
EWSC public relations officer Henry Kashoki said the water supply line will be re-routed to pave way for road rehabilitation works on Umodzi highway.
Mr Kashoki said in an interview in Chipata yesterday that works on the project have started.
“If we did not re-route the pipeline, we could have compromised water supply in an event that the supply line develops a leak or bursts. We are happy that Mota-Engil, has given us K2.5 million for the project” he said.
He said the water utility faced a challenge of re-routing the water supply pipe, which passes under the newly-constructed Oasis Filling Station on Umodzi highway.
Mr Kashoki said EWSC targets to complete the project by this month end.
