Eastern Province in development drive

THE sun rises from the east so goes the English adage. In the last ten years, Eastern Province has received a fair share of development since the Patriotic Front (PF) assumed office in September 2011.
Roads, health, agriculture and education sectors are all receiving attention from President Edgar Lungu and his Government.
The head of State is walking the talk in his development drive across the country.
Recently, the author had an interview with Eastern Province Minister Makebi Zulu on the progress Government has made in the region, which is also the country’s food basket.
Q: What has Government done in the health sector in Eastern Province from 2016 to 2021?
R: The Patriotic Front (PF) Government recognises that good health is an essential prerequisite for national development. The role of the health services is to promote health, prevent disease and injury, treat, and rehabilitate the sick and injured. To ensure quality health service delivery to the people in Eastern Province, the PF Government from 2016 to 2021 implemented the developmental programmes:
Establishment of central hospital
Government upgraded the Chipata General Hospital to a central hospital. The upgrading involved installation of modern specialised medical equipment such as CT scan, Mammography Unit and PCR Laboratory.
