East farmers get on tractors

MECHANISED agriculture has been the potential to improve yields for farmers. The Ministry of Gender and CAMCO Equipment have been distributing tractors to farmers in Eastern Province.

CHRISTOPHER CHIPEMBA, Chipata
TRADITIONAL leaders in Eastern Province are excited at the prospect of their chiefdoms recording improved yields this season from the previous one.
The chiefs have attributed this improvement in production of maize to the increase in the hectares cultivated because farmers used tractors distributed to them by the Ministry of Gender.
Chief Kapatamoyo of the Chewa in Chipangali district says farmers in his chiefdom were able to cultivate bigger portions of land within a short period of time and plant with the first rains.
“By the time the first rains came, land had already been cultivated and so farmers planted on time,” Chief Kapatamoyo says.
Chief Mushaba, also of the Chewa in Chipata, is thanking the Government for implementing the tractor empowerment programme in his chiefdom and also commended CAMCO Equipment Company for supplying the tractors and training the tractor operators.http://epaper.daily-mail.co.zm/
