MULWANDA LUPIYA, Ndola
LUSAKA Dynamos coach Patrick Phiri says the 2-1 victory over Zesco United has reaffirmed his team’s status as Super
Division title contenders.
Phiri said in an interview in Ndola on Thursday that he is delighted his charges managed to end their four match winless run to put their title aspirations back on track.
“I am very happy that our outing has been very successful and now we are back on track. We can look forward to being part of the teams that are campaigning for the championship.
“I think it’s just figures to show that we are contenders. I think we have moved up on the log. I think the top eight are still in contention to win the championship. So it’s good to see that we are closer to the log leaders and it gives us a good feeling that we are in this position,” Phiri said.
Defender Eric Kabulo and Fwayo Tembo netted a goal apiece for the ambitious side while Davis Kasirye scored for Zesco at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
Zesco coach Zlatko Krmpotic said his players put up a good showing.
“This was our best today,” Krmpotic said.
Asked if the defeat had anything to do with the absence of defenders Fackson Kapumbu and Simon Silwimba and midfielder John Ching’andu who are with the national team in East London for today’s African Nations Championship second round first leg against South Africa, the Serbian declined to comment.
“Last time I spoke about this [key players] and I gave you everything so now I don’t want to speak about this and you must understand me after this game and after this loss,” Krmpotic said.
