DRC bans cement, drinks importation

THE Ministry of External Trade in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has imposed an import ban on a selection of goods, a move that is likely to affect some Zambian companies that export to that country.

Some of the goods banned, as announced through a circular dated August 25, 2017 and signed by Minister of External Trade Jean-Lucien Bussa Tongba, are cement, beer, iron bars and carbonated drinks.
The ban is meant to protect local industries, as well as to curb fraud and other illegal practices in the importation of the said products.
