Don’t drag chiefs into your political agendas’

ALVIN CHIINGA, Lusaka
PATRIOTIC Front (PF) secretary-general Davies Chama has advised the media against dragging chiefs into their political agendas.
And Mr Chama says the PF government will always respect traditional authorities such as the Bemba Royal Establishment (BRE).
He appealed to individuals who want to drag traditional leaders into politics to desist from doing so.
“Traditional leaders should not be dragged into politics because their role is to support the government of the day,” he said.
Mr Chama said in an interview on Monday that politicians or any other stakeholders such as the media should leave the traditional leaders alone.
He questioned the credibility of The Post newspaper for publishing remarks attributed to the BRE, which the traditional authority has refuted.
Mr Chama said at no time should traditional leaders be seen to be partisan because doing so compromises their role in society.
