THE Department of Veterinary Services in Mafinga in Muchinga Province has embarked on an exercise to vaccinate 250 dogs against rabies.
District veterinary assistant John Banda said in an interview yesterday that the department wants to ensure more dogs are vaccinated against rabies to curb the disease.
“Here in Muchinga,we have the fruits bats,which are carriers of rabies.These bats usually bite the dogs and transmit the disease.This is the reason why we have to ensure that we vaccinate the dogs,” he said.
He said the number of dog bites in the district is high and that the district recorded 63 cases last year.
