DMMU donates to vulnerable community

THE Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) has released 100 metric tonnes of relief maize to Chama district in Muchinga Province.
Chama District Commissioner Leonard Ngoma said in an interview that the relief maize is meant for hunger-stricken vulnerable people.
Mr Ngoma said the district recorded a poor crop yield in the 2017/2018 farming season, a situation he said has left most of the people without the staple food.
He said most of the crops that were grown were badly affected by the floods and this led to drought.
“The district has received 100 metric tonnes of maize from Government which will help address the hunger that people in the district are facing,” he said.
Mr Ngoma said the district administration has selected the United Church of Zambia (UCZ) to be the sole distributer of the maize
