Councillor arrested over land

CHINGOLA’S Luano councillor, Joseph Mulonga, has been arrested by police for allegedly obtaining K52,500 by false pretence.
Copperbelt police commissioner Charity Katanga said Mulonga, 53, was arrested last Friday for allegedly obtaining money from three people whom he promised to assist to acquire land.
“The police have arrested Joseph Mulonga, who has been charged with three counts of obtaining money on pretext that he would find plots for the three people that reported him to the police,” she said.
Ms Katanga said Mulonga is remanded in custody and will appear in court soon.
Recently, Task Force on Illegal Land Acquisitions and Allocations chairperson Panji Kaunda said police would investigate the alleged illegal land allocation at Chingola Municipal council.
Lieutenant Colonel (rtd) Kaunda, who is Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, said the law would take its course on councillors found wanting.
